The present study is primarily based on my M. Phil dissertation in the discipline of the international relations presented to the National Defense University (NDU), Islamabad in 2014. It focuses on the disputed region of Aksai Chin a high altitude desert situated at the elevation of 17000 feet. Known as the ‘one of the lest accessed areas in the word ’ and ‘among the world’s bleakest stretches,’ this ‘utterly featureless expanse of pebbles as flat as a dead calm sea’ is claimed by India but is under the control of China. India considers it as the eastern most part of the Ladakh district of disputed state of Jammu and Kashmir While China manages it as a part of Hotan country in the Hotan Prefecture of Xinjiang Autonomous Region. It is mostly a high altitude desert having few salt lakes situated from 48,000 meters to 5,500 meters above sea level. The book gives Comprehensive information about history, geography, administration, politics and defense potentials of India and China.
